Dalai Lama on Living Life NOW! Ideas to Change Your Life.

dalai-lama-quote

Most of us put off living in the present moment and are always working toward a goal.  While it is good to think of the future and prepare for it, far too many of us are driven by it,  and are missing out on life right now.  As the Dalai Lama so appropriately states, “he lives as if we are never going to die, and  then die having never really lived”.  I think this is something we need to consider as our children grow up before our eyes, our parents move from the happy early retirement years, into assisted living facilities or long term care.  Where did the time go?  While we were busy making plans, life happened and we look back and scratch our heads and wonder where it all went.  It is important to take time to be present so we don’t miss out on our lives.   Here are 5 ideas to help you do that:

1. Carve out family time, or time just for you. Make it a daily habit to nourish your soul and that of your loved ones.

2. Put the phone down for an hour a day and don’t look at it.

3.. Practice mindfulness. While you are in a moment, really BE in the moment. Focus on the here and now.

4. Make one day a NO TV day.  Use this time to re-connect with people you’ve lost touch with, or simply read a good book, or pick up that hobby you’ve neglected. Spend more time out doors, where our spirits are re-charged.Dalia lama Plain Picture

5.. Practice deep breathing to calm your racing mind.  Close your eyes and just breathe in to a 7 count and out to a 10 count. Repeat.

Remember life is what we make it!  Let’s make this next moment really count!
